My Inspiration To Create This Artwork
I’ve always had this fascination with the Koi fish. I always thought the creature as a beautiful creation. Since I was a child I’ve had a fascination with Asian culture and later on I developed this admiration even more.
In 2015 I created the original Black and white drawing for this artwork entitled “Koi of Balance”.
Just two years prior I begin learning Mandarin Chinese as well the Korean language. I started to enjoy learning the different dialect and tones specific to the languages. During that time I watch so many martial arts in Japanese action films.
Unfortunately due to a lot of the obstacles life tends to throw at us I had to pause my quest and go to continue to learn the languages.
Still this day I aspired to learn seven languages fluently before I reach the age of 40, But I still have to figure out how I am going to teach myself these languages.
The style of artwork that I create is deeply connected to this idea of motion. When I first started drawing in this style, I simply allowed my hand to go where ever the line felt the most fluid.
I would refer to the drawings as subconscious line art. Most of the time I would not think about where I would want to draw the line or next element in the artwork.
I always went with the flow. This is truer for the abstract art that I create that are non-subjective versus the art that is focused around on a subject matter like this drawing.
The fish itself is a very fluid animal. Not only because it dwells in water, But because of the movement of the fish.
This piece is a symbolic artwork reflecting this concept.
My First Koi Fish Artwork
Balance is always good to ensure a welcome post artwork. Some artists prefer to always do asymmetrical artwork and break the balance.
Although I shared this idea I also believe you can achieve balance through the use of contrast. By using more black shading or blocks within the composition of the line artwork I achieve this balance.
Very rarely I will create a line artwork and not imply some form of contrast and the piece. Balance is good.
Coloring The Koi Fish Drawing
Colors impact our mood as human beings whether we are aware of it or not. For a long time growing up, I did not really like coloring the art I created. In recent years I've become more open to the use of color in my artwork.
When I was deciding what to color the "Koi of Balance" artwork
I didn't want to stray too far away from the colors favored by most Asian cultures. This is the influence that went into the use of the color palette I choose for all of the different t-shirt variations.

Passion For Art
Every day I create a sketch or a drawing to express an idea that I have in mind. I try not to let any ideas sit for too long and do my best to act on them by either creating for drawings or at least small sketches.
I’ve been drawing since I was four years old and 20+ years later I am still doing a lot of drawing. The influences for the artwork that I create are Jean Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Hokusai Katsushika and Jackson Pollock.
