In an essay, written by Amber King on Academia, she cited a source Love, sex, and marriage through the ages by Bernard I Murstein. In this book, the author mentioned how Egyptian butchers from the period of 3500 B.C. used some form of high heels.
Butchers wore these elevated shoes to keep their feet clean of any blood from the animals they slaughtered. The aristocracy at the time would wear high heels; this being both men and women.
Title: Giza Heels
The Giza Heels is an illustration that was inspired by the ancient pyramids of Giza. This is a personal project I started as a fashion illustration, which I share originally shared on my first website Kenalsworld. It is one of the first digital paintings I've created of the high heels I produce. Following this piece I've drawn many high heels inspired by the Ancient Egyptians designs as well as elements.
High heels an essential part of fashion. From the high fashion models to iconic celebrities like the late Prince and Elton John, who were some male figures that popularized men wearing high heels.
The inspiration for the high heel art series came from my love for the organic shape of the heels. I also find women who wear high heels even sexier. There is a level of classiness, subtle elegance and royalty in high heels.
I wanted to take all of these ideas and put in into the high heel art series I started to develop. Another source of inspiration was the ancient Egyptian patterns, elements, and imagery. Knowing how far high heels dated back from leading to this point. I wanted to create fashion drawings of high heels that also represented history.
Watch the creation of this high heel drawing from the beginning to the end. The day that I make this artwork I took out my camera and recorded the process.
I created this speed drawing from the recording of the peach and gold high heel artwork.
It all started at a fashion show. In 2012 I attended Omar fashion week while living in Omaha Nebraska and something sparked in me.
I didn’t go to the fashion show just for leisure, but for an assignment I was given while I was taking an introduction to digital photography course at the local college.
We had to choose a niche photography or category that we would like to shoot. My choice if you can guess once fashion photography.
My college professor at a time mentioned Omaha fashion week to me and that I should go cover the event and take photos for my assignment.
I want I captured so many photos of the models walking on the runway that I was inspired to create a series of fashion illustrations of that night. I developed the style of line artwork that you see with the vibrant color palette that you see.
Here’s an example of the first illustrations that I created from that night.
From there I continue to experiment with high hills because I loved the shape of the shoe. The curve I believe allows for a unique composition and a great piece of art every time.
Really to keep it short this was the birth of an ongoing series of fashion artworks I have in mind. Since then I have created over 100 complete high heel drawings and sketches.
I am not even done because I believe there is an unlimited possibility of designs and creative art direction an artist can take with a high heel.
All in all, high heels have been adored for thousands of years and I don’t think they are going out of style anytime soon.
