Creating the first mask I never thought I would be creating an entire series after it. So far, I've drawn 50 masks and have 50 more to complete, but have only shared 12 so far on my website. The 12 can be seen in the African artworks collections section of the site.
When I first started the series I did so because African tribal masks as a deep connection and impact to art history. It's subtle because it is not something heavily popular like egyptian symbols and art history.
This may be partly because of the lack of documentation historically on the many African countries artworks and artists throughout history. Living in the western world we haven't been exposed to Africa's untapped art culture.
Regardless, the masks represent so much more to me. They represent mystery, magic, strength, black culture, boldness, spirituality, divine power and creativity.
The series begin in 2017 and in my quest to create 100 masks, I've completed 50 so far. Each mask also are created to be unique in their composition. Just like each individual living on this planet is unique the masks also are their own characters/body of work.
Below are the remaining two colors from this collection of the first African mask artwork. I wanted to create something complimentary of each other. I thought a color combination of purple and yellow suited the collection perfectly.
What do you think?
This is only the first mask from the collection. I intend to create 100 different masks from the collection. Below are some of the masks in the masking, although not all will be made into t-shirts but over time some will be published.
SO. Follow me on Instagram and or Pinterest if will be waiting for another mask or just want to know when the site is updated with new artworks.
Passion For Art
Every day I create a sketch or a drawing to express an idea that I have in mind. I try not to let any ideas sit for too long and do my best to act on them by either creating for drawings or at least small sketches.
I’ve been drawing since I was four years old and 20+ years later I am still doing a lot of drawing. The influences for the artwork that I create are Jean Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Hokusai Katsushika and Jackson Pollock.
Thank you if you made it this far down the page! If you cannot purchase a t-shirt to support my art creations, please share this page via Pinterest or Facebook.
A SHARE goes a long way. Thank you in advance.
Oh, don't forget to comment below on which shirt design is your favorite from these ones. I would love to know and would create more African masks artworks around that color palette.
I am always pushing the boundaries of my own imagination whenever I create an artwork. Whether it is a digital painting, traditional painting, or pen and ink drawing, I challenge myself with each creation.Follow me on Instagram @kenallouis to view stories and my most recent works in process and the ones I don't share on the website.
